We noticed the same thing
kept happening.
Ask any sole trader what happens to a call they cannot take, and you get a shrug. It rings out. It goes to voicemail. Nobody leaves one. That is it — the end of the story, told as though it were weather rather than a business problem.
What made it stick was how ordinary it was. A plumber with his hands inside a boiler. An electrician halfway up a ladder. A hairdresser mid-colour who cannot stop for ten minutes. A driving instructor who is legally not allowed to pick up. None of them are ignoring the phone. They are doing the job the last caller booked them for.
And every one of them was losing work to it, quietly, without ever finding out. That is the part that bothered us. A missed call with no voicemail leaves a number in your log and nothing else — no name, no reason for the call, no idea whether it was a £80 job or a £4,000 one. You cannot chase what you cannot see, and you certainly cannot grieve it. So people carry on assuming the calls that ring out were probably nothing important.
They usually are not nothing. Someone with a leak, a lockout or a dead boiler is not planning to wait. They have three tabs open and they are working down the list. By the time you have washed your hands and rung back, they have booked somebody else and forgotten you were ever an option.
The strange thing was that the fix already existed and nobody was using it. Every UK mobile network has had conditional call forwarding built into it for decades — a setting that says if I do not answer, send the call here instead. It is the same mechanism that puts unanswered calls into voicemail. It is just that "here" has always meant voicemail, and nobody had bothered to point it somewhere more useful.
So that is what TextTheCaller is. Your network already knows how to hand us a call you did not pick up. We reject it the instant it arrives — we never answer it, never speak to your customer, never sit between you and them — and we send that caller a text from your business name, within seconds, while they still have your number on screen.
Nothing about your setup changes. Same number on the van, same handset, same tariff, no app to install and nothing new to remember. The only thing that changes is that the calls you miss stop disappearing.
What we deliberately don't do
A lot of what this product is comes from things we decided to leave out.
We never answer the call
The moment a service picks up your phone, it is standing between you and your customer. We reject the forwarded call immediately. There is no receptionist, no phone menu, no hold music and no second voicemail on our side — the caller hears your line ring out exactly as it does today, then gets a text.
We do not give you a new number
The number on your van, in your customers' phones and on your Google listing is the asset. Replacing it with a "business number" would mean rebuilding all of that, and it is the reason most of these services never get set up properly.
We do not text everybody who rings
Landlines, withheld and international numbers are skipped, because a text to them cannot arrive. Repeat callers get one message a week rather than one per call. And anyone on your skip list — family, your merchant, your subcontractors — never gets one at all.
We do not have tiers
One price, £6.49 a month, with 50 texts in it. No enterprise plan, no per-seat pricing, no feature held back for a higher tier. Pricing pages that hide the number are usually hiding something else too.
We do not ask you to take it on trust
Call forwarding behaves differently across networks, plans and handsets, and anyone who tells you otherwise has not tested enough of them. So the trial exists to be used: set it up, ring your own number, let it ring out, and watch the text land on your own phone before any money moves.
How it's run
TextTheCaller is a small independent UK operation, not a division of anything larger and not venture funded. There is no sales team, which is why there is no "book a demo" button anywhere on this site — you can read the price, start a trial and decide for yourself without speaking to anyone.
It also means support is a real inbox rather than a ticket queue. If something is not working on your line, the reply comes from someone who can actually go and look at it. Here is how to reach us.
We are not affiliated with any mobile network. The setup guides on this site describe the standard GSM call-forwarding codes that UK operators implement, and we link to each operator's own documentation alongside our version of it so you can check us.
